The Australian has fond memories of playing on the London grass having reached the final at Wimbledon in 2003, before being defeated by none other than a young Roger Federer. His other career highlights include reaching the US Open final in 1998 where he lost to compatriot Pat Rafter, and winning two Davis Cup titles with Australia in 1999 and 2003. He won the deciding rubber in 1999 to secure Australia’s first triumph in thirteen years, before repeating the feat four years later. He won the ATP Newcomer of the year award in 1995 at the age of just 19 having finished the year as the youngest player inside the top 50, and the ATP Comeback Player of the Year in 2003. He is nicknamed ‘Scud’ due to the power of his serve.
